A study by the “Znanie” Center, covering 1,600 respondents across 80 Russian regions, has revealed a deep crisis of critical thinking within the country. According to the poll, over 41% of Russians are convinced that a “secret world government” exists.
The Map of Conspiracy Beliefs:
- Age Gap: Belief in conspiracy theories is directly proportional to age. Among citizens over 60, supporters of the “global cabal” are twice as numerous (50%) as among youth under 24 (24%).
- Pandemic and Medicine: 66% of respondents are certain of the artificial origin of COVID-19. Another 42% believe that pharmaceutical corporations intentionally hide cures for terminal diseases.
- Denial of Science and History: 35% of those polled consider the American Moon landing a hoax, 27% fear the health risks of 5G towers, and 5% remain adherents of the “Flat Earth” theory.
Analytical Summary: Portrait of a Dangerous Society
The results of this 2026 study paint a disturbing picture of the social consciousness. Such a high concentration of irrational beliefs is not merely a collective delusion but a symptom of the formation of a dangerous society that is losing touch with objective reality.
Why this creates a threat:
- Loss of Trust in Institutions: When nearly half the population believes in a “secret government,” the legitimacy of any official structure—from healthcare to the state—is reduced to zero. This makes society unmanageable during real crises; people would rather believe an anonymous Telegram channel than a specialized ministry.
- Rejection of Progress: Belief in the harm of 5G and medical conspiracies blocks technological development and public health initiatives. Resistance to innovation at the mass consciousness level leads to the “archaicization” of the country.
- The Demand for Simplification as a Symptom of Anxiety: Political scientists note that conspiracy theories serve as a psychological defense against chaos. However, in the long run, “ordering” the world through myths makes society extremely vulnerable to manipulation.
A society in which a third of the population denies key historical facts and the majority rejects scientific data becomes a breeding ground for radicalization. The absence of a shared rational foundation turns the social environment into a high-risk zone where any governmental or scientific undertaking can be sabotaged by a sudden outbreak of mass paranoia.
