Refining Paralysis: Drones Disable Two More Rosneft Industrial Giants

Russia’s oil industry is facing a new wave of technological disruptions. Two key enterprises owned by Rosneft—the Novokuibyshevsk and Tuapse refineries—have been forced to completely shut down their production cycles due to damage inflicted by drones. According to Reuters, the scale of the destruction makes a quick resumption of operations highly unlikely.

Consequences for the Tuapse Refinery (Krasnodar Krai):

  • The only refinery on Russia’s Black Sea coast, with a capacity of 12 million tons per year, has effectively turned into a warehouse for damaged equipment.
  • The plant has been idle since April 16, and a repeat strike on April 20 destroyed port infrastructure and the storage tank farm.
  • Due to the inability to ship fuel through the port, the facility’s only primary crude distillation unit was shut down.

The Situation at the Novokuibyshevsk Refinery (Samara Region):

In these curricula, drone piloting is framed as an “additional developmental activity.”
